Job description

About us: iconic brand, tiny company.

Polaroid was founded in 1937 by one of the most seminal innovators of the 20th century, Edwin Land. His motto was, “don't undertake a project unless it is manifestly important and nearly impossible.” In 2008, Polaroid shuttered its last factory, but a group of diehard fans came together as The Impossible Project to save instant film. Over 10 years later that startup acquired what was left of Polaroid and today we’re again a small group of people passionate about changing the world through great products.

Job Summary

At Polaroid, we’re dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation, and we’re looking for an Electronics Systems Engineer to help drive the development of our next-generation products. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing and developing the electronics that power our devices, collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring complex hardware systems to life. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a hands-on environment, with a strong foundation in electronics and embedded systems. If you’re passionate about solving technical challenges and expanding your skills in a dynamic environment, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electronics Systems Development: Design and develop electronic hardware solutions for embedded systems, collaborating closely with senior engineers on product architecture and circuit design.
  • Testing and Prototyping: Assist in prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of electronic systems, ensuring reliability and performance in embedded environments.
  • Schematic and PCB Design: Create and maintain schematics and PCB layouts for embedded electronics, ensuring design best practices are followed for manufacturability and performance. Maintain component libraries and EE BoM management.
  • Documentation and Collaboration: Document designs, test procedures, and troubleshooting steps clearly, while effectively communicating with team members to share knowledge and drive improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electronics and embedded systems. Apply new skills and ideas to enhance our products and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electronics design and embedded systems development.
  • Proficiency in hardware design concepts, including digital and analog circuits.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, Eagle).
  • Understanding of signal integrity and power management principles, including design for EMC and DFM.
  • Experience with microcontroller/microprocessor-based circuit design.
  • Knowledge of standard communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, MIPI).
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and issue tracking tools.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware development and understanding of languages like C/C++.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
