Job description
About us: iconic brand, tiny company.
Polaroid was founded in 1937 by one of the most seminal innovators of the 20th century, Edwin Land. His motto was, “don't undertake a project unless it is manifestly important and nearly impossible.” In 2008, Polaroid shuttered its last factory, but a group of diehard fans came together as The Impossible Project to save instant film. Over 10 years later that startup acquired what was left of Polaroid and today we’re again a small group of people passionate about changing the world through great products.
Job Summary
We’re looking for a Senior Electronics Systems Engineer to lead the development of the electronics at the heart of Polaroid’s next-generation products. In this role, you’ll own the full lifecycle of electronics design: from early concept and prototyping to manufacturing scale-up. Collaborating with firmware, mechanical, optics, and operations teams to bring complete systems to life.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, has deep technical expertise in embedded electronics, and enjoys solving complex problems that balance cost, quality, and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Electronics Architecture & Design: Lead the design and development of electronic systems for consumer products, including schematic design, component selection, and PCB layout strategy.
Prototyping, Validation & Testing: Drive bring-up, validation, and testing of prototypes and pre-production units. Define and execute testing strategies for EMC, EMI, signal integrity, and system-level robustness.
Manufacturing Readiness: Partner with Asian manufacturing partners and suppliers to take designs from engineering prototypes to mass production, including PCBA builds, DFM/DFT reviews, and yield optimization.
Cost, Quality & Feature Tradeoffs: Collaborate closely with product leadership, operations, and suppliers to optimize designs for performance, quality, and cost - ensuring competitive BOM and COGM targets are met.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Work with firmware, mechanical, and optical engineers to ensure seamless system integration and alignment across design, validation, and manufacturing teams.
Continuous Innovation: Stay up to date with emerging technologies, tools, and processes to drive improvements in electronics design, testing, and manufacturability.
Qualifications:
Proven track record of taking at least one product from concept to high-volume mass production.
Deep expertise in digital and analog circuit design, including power management, signal conditioning, and high-speed interfaces.
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout (e.g., Altium, Eagle), including multi-layer, impedance-controlled designs.
Strong understanding of EMC, EMI, DFM/DFT, and signal integrity best practices.
Hands-on experience with PCBA bring-up, failure analysis, and debug using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other tools.
Experience working directly with Asian suppliers and contract manufacturers.
Familiarity with embedded firmware integration and debugging.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
